Why Focus on Student Engagement for an LMS Evaluation?

What are the key uses of an LMS that help promote Student Engagement?

Based on the readings provided here, these seven LMS uses represent a concise and powerful analytical framework for evaluating eLearning tools. They are offered as starting points for writing user stories or for developing entire use cases.

• Support Varied Learning Communities
• Create and Integrate Self-Study Materials
• Enable Peer Learning Assistants
• Facilitate Regular Monitoring, & Feedback
• Publish Student Work
• Increase Faculty-Student Interaction
• Use Faculty Time Efficiently

Are these key uses very different for on-campus and distance learners?

In this poster presentation, I propose that the tools and activities that high-quality distance education programs have come to rely on for engaging students in academically challenging work, are largely the same tools that campus-based educators can leverage to more fully address student engagement goals.
